Concierto de Adviento
Concert of the Yale Camerata
December 03, 8:00 pm
Battell Chapel, Corner of College and Elm Sts., New Haven
Yale Camerata, conducted by Marguerite Brooks, will present its
annual advent concert in New Haven on Saturday, December 3 at 8
pm in Battell Chapel (corner College and Elm). The 2005 Concierto
de Adviento will include music from Mexico by de Zespedes,
Fernandes, de Padilla, and Capillas, as well as J. S. Bach’s
first cantata Jauchzet, frohlocket, auf preiset die Tage
and the Dona nobis pacem from the B-minor Mass. Works by
Matthias, Lauridsen, Bennett, Harrison, Gregorio, and Levine (a
setting of the seventeenth century Mexican feminist poet Sor Juana
Inés de la Cruz) will round out the varied program. The concert
will conclude, in its annual tradition, with the Willcocks arrangement
of Goss's See, amid the Winter's Snow, with the audience
joining in.
Two of the composers on the program have Yale connections: Daniel
Harrison is a professor of music theory in Yale's department of
music, and Joseph Gregorio is a recent alumnus of the Yale Institute
of Sacred Music and Yale School of Music.
Soloists are Judith Malafronte, mezzo-soprano; James Taylor, tenor;
and Richard Lalli, baritone.
The concert, sponsored by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, is
free and open to the public; no tickets are required.
