IEFP-Designated Study Abroad Programs

Explore study abroad opportunities approved by several Yale academic departments. IEFP-designated opportunities for ISA funding include programs throughout the world in a variety of subjects.

Application Process
(for IEFP-designated study abroad programs only)

There are three parts of the application process for IEFP-designated study abroad programs:

  1. Apply to one of the IEFP-designated study abroad programs listed below.
  2. Register to receive ISA-SIC Plus funds using the IEFP ISA registration form. Submit the completed form to IEFP no later than April 15, 2008.
  3. When you have been accepted to your study abroad program, contact Pam Warner in IEFP to set up a time to bring in a copy of the letter and sign the ISA agreement (call 432-8684; email ). This final step is necessary in order for your award check to be processed.

Credit from Summer Study Abroad

A program’s inclusion on the ISA designated list does not automatically mean you will be able to receive Yale credit for the courses. Requests for credit for summer study abroad courses are handled on a case-by-case basis by the residential college deans and the DUS of the department relevant to the courses taken while abroad. Please refer to the section "Credit from Other Universities: Rules on Credit from Outside Yale" in YCPS. You must talk to your dean and DUS before going abroad so that you understand the requirements and process for receiving outside course credit for summer study abroad. If you do not speak with the DUS before going abroad you greatly increase the likelihood that you will run into difficulties with the credit petition when you will return to campus in the fall. In addition, plan on bringing back all course work, exams (if allowed), syllabi, and class notes for the courses taken abroad.

Interested applicants with questions about programs may schedule an appointment with Karyn Jones, Director for Study Abroad, or Susan Coleman, Study Abroad Adviser. For questions on program costs, contact Pamela Warner, Study Abroad Assistant. Call 203-432-8684, no appointments may be made through email. For a schedule of open hours and appointment times, view the staff schedules.

Listing of IEFP Sponsored Study Abroad Programs

Some programs are small and may fill up quickly, therefore, we advise you to apply early, and to apply to at least one back-up program (this is particularly true for SIT programs).
