The Yale International Singers
choral ensemble has performed music from the farthest reaches of the
globe, in languages as diverse as the nationalities of its members.
Each program weaves a tapestry drawn from
classical music, renaissance music, traditional folk songs, and popular
songs, sung either a capella or with instrumentation ranging
from strings to organ to ethnic percussion. In the intricate
interweavings of melody, harmony and language we find not only joy and
beauty, but friendship.
Founded in 1996, the Yale
International Singers have been led since 1999 by conductor Sebastián
Zubieta, an Argentinian native. With one rehearsal per week, the
YIS caters to the committed schedules of graduate and professional
students and young professionals from the Yale community. Our members hail from many different countries, and
join together in the celebration of worldwide song.
