As email becomes the communication method of choice, mailing lists are increasing in popularity and are used by organizations, clubs and in classes to distribute information.
Provides easy communication with members of a group. Everyone in the group can send email to the list and it will reach all members of the group. This can be useful in a small class where students may send their papers or comments to each other.

A newsgroup provides an electronic forum for people to post items of interest, conduct discussions, or voice their opinions. Instructors can use Yale newsgroups for their classes to encourage communication outside the classroom.
