Yale University Infant Cognition Center

Since 1990, our team has studied infant and child development. Our research examines how infants and young children reason and learn about both the physical and the social world. None of this would be possible without the help of parents and children like you who generously volunteer their time to participate!

We currently have several studies designed for different age groups of children, ranging from 3 months to 24 months. Our studies are designed to be fun for babies and are absolutely risk-free. Visits last about 30 minutes, including time to explain the study and to accustom children to the new environment. Babies then watch either a puppet show, or a computer-animated movie involving objects or people. We simply monitor babies’ natural responses to these events.

Using these simple methods, we can better understand the knowledge and abilities of infants. Parents are with their baby during the entire study, and we schedule appointments for a time that is convenient for you. We also provide free parking and free in-center babysitting for brothers and sisters!
