Bone finding: Absent clavicle

Notes

Follow-up radiograph

COMMENTS

Symmetry is an important consideration in all radiography. Because of the dominant horizontal ladder-like structure of the posterior ribs, it is easy to overlook the fainter absence of the left clavicle. The two small symmetric circular densities are metal buttons on this female patient's gown (note breast shadows). Absent clavicle is a nonpathological variant which is generally asymptomatic. The rest of the examination is within normal limits.
