[an error occurred while processing this directive] The terminal program that ships with windows is easy to configure.

To set up Terminal and connect for the first time, follow these steps:

  1. Run Windows.
  2. From the Accessories Group, launch Terminal.
  3. Choose Settings, Communications.
  4. Configure the settings to 8 bits, 1 stop bit, non parity. Be sure to set your com port to the modem port.

  5. Choose Settings, Phone Number.

  6. Enter the appropriate telephone nuber:
    • K-12 Dialup: 764-9505
    • Student Dialup: 764-9506
    • Faculty/Staff Dialup: 764-9507
  7. Under Settings, again, choose Terminal Preferences.

  8. Uncheck the box at the bottom of the window marked "Use Function, Arrow, and Ctrl Keys for Windows."
  9. Choose File, Save. ("yale.trm" is a good file name).
  10. Choose Phone, Dial.

To connect to yale the next time and after, follow these steps:

  1. Run Windows.
  2. From the Accessories Group, launch Terminal.
  3. Choose File, Open, and select yale.trm (or whatever you saved your settings as).
  4. Choose Phone, Dial.
Alternatively, you can create an icon for the settings that automatically starts Terminal with the appropriate settings. To do this:
  1. Start Windows.
  2. Open the window of the Program Group where you wish the icon to appear.
  3. From the top Program Manager menu, select File,New.

  4. The dialog box should list "Program Item" as the default. Click OK. (If it lists "Program Group" as the default, go back to the window where you want the icon to be, click on it, and repeat this step being careful not to click on anything else in the meanwhile.)
  5. In the Properties Box, type the icon's name in the Description field.

  6. Type the location of the Settings file in the Command Line field. You can click on the Browse button and search for .trm files if you don't remember the exact location (most likely, it will be C:\Windows\yale.trm).
  7. Don't worry about the rest of the fields. Click OK. An icon for the settings should now appear in the window you selected. From now on, you can just start it directly, choose Phone, Dial, and that's it! [an error occurred while processing this directive]
