This location is equipped with network access ports which provide access
to the Yale Campus Network and the Internet from properly configured
laptop computers.
There are two methods of connection:
Method 1: Ethernet
One or more ethernet ports are provided at this location.
You will need the following to use them:
-
A machine that has been pre-configured to work with the network access
ports. Students with residential ethernet connections are
automatically
configured; faculty and staff, please take a look at our Instructions for Configuring Roaming
Ethernet. Note that roaming ethernet is available only
to members of the Yale community who are currently paying for a network
connection (either static IP ethernet, PPP or ARA).
-
Windows 95, Windows NT Workstation (version 3.5 or later) or Mac OS
version
7.5 or later ("Open Transport 1.1.2" or later).
-
An ethernet adapter (built-in or PC card).
-
An existing Yale Campus Network connection at your office, college, or
dorm room.
To connect:
-
Connect the provided ethernet cable to your ethernet card.
-
Connect power and start (power cycle) your machine.
Method 2: Localtalk
One or more localtalk ports, complete with cable, are provided at this
location. You will need the following to use them:
- A Macintosh computer that has been configured to work with a localtalk
connection. Students, faculty, and staff who currently use localtalk connections
in their rooms or offices should already be configured to use localtalk.
- An existing Yale Campus Network connection (a localtalk connection)
at your office, college, or dorm room.
- Note that if you only want to access file servers such as ACS Macintosh
(and don't want to use TCP/IP applications such as Netscape or telnet),
you don't need either an existing connection in your office or room, or
any special configuration.
To connect:
- Connect the provided localtalk cable to your localtalk port (usually
the printer port).
- Connect power and start (power cycle) your machine.
