Industrial operations have an enormous impact on environmental quality.
Their scale, their importance to the global economy, and the pressure
they exert on natural resources make corporate decision-making a crucial
factor in every area of environmental concern.
The Industrial Environmental Management (IEM) Program was established
in 1990 at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
It combines front rank academic training and outreach in a comprehensive
approach to understanding the relationship of the environment to our
technological society. The academic component aims to equip students
with an integrated set of skills for tackling complex, multifaceted
environmental problems facing managers in industry, government, and
related sectors. The outreach component ensures that the program's information
and perspectives are shared with and informed by industrial, non-governmental,
and governmental organizations throughout the world. Research is conducted
through the associated Yale Center for Industrial Ecology.
