1. Pre-Departure Paperwork / Check Pick Up

In order to receive the award check, students must first complete the required components in their MyCIE account. They will then receive instructions for making an appointment to meet with the Light Fellowship staff to fill out the required paperwork and have their picture taken for use on the Web site, etc.

2. Light Fellowship Trustees Reception (Late Fall Competition winners only)

The three Light Fellowship Trustees look forward to their annual April visit to speak with returned Fellows about their experiences abroad and to meet new Fellows before they begin their journeys. This is your chance to thank the Light Foundation for their generous award and share ambitions and backgrounds with them. We will send more information about this event via email.

Attire at this event is semi-formal.

3. Pre-departure Orientation

We hold separate pre-departure orientations for China/Taiwan Fellows, and for Japan/Korea Fellows. During this meeting, staff will deliver a presentation to help students predict and prepare for the myriad challenges a person faces when studying in another culture. Fellows will receive their SAC "Unofficial Guide" at this event. This guide is SAC created and provides valuable information about the programs and living abroad.

4. SAC-led Pre-departure Orientation

This orientation will be led by SAC members, and together with former Light Fellows, aims to relieve anxiety that Fellows may have about country and program-specific questions. This is the time to hear about previous Fellows' experiences and pick up tips about your individual program.
