Barry Fellowship Alum Spotlight

Alexander Rabin, 2005 Barry Fellow

Alexander Rabin (Alex), a Barry fellow during the summer of 2005 in Moscow, Russia worked for a branch of the World Health Organization called Stop-TB. He came from a family of Russian emigrants and spoke the language, but had never had the opportunity to visit Russia. His two-month long stay in Moscow was split between working for the WHO central office in Russia and the Moscow Central TB Research Institute, interspersed with visits to newfound relatives (he'd only met his grandmother once before!). The trip made a profound impact on Alex and he continues to take great interest in Russian culture and the crumbling state of the medical infrastructure. The time spent in Moscow helped convince him of a career in medicine and he hopes to one day return to Russia as a full-fledged doctor. Alex documented his travels in a Web site that includes several journal entries, pictures, and information and links about TB.
