ICRG
Mission Statement |
 |
| Interactions
between international actors are becoming more relevant to geopolitical
stability in today's increasingly interdependent world. International
conflicts not only concern those who are involved, but also the rest
of the global community. ICRG consists of a group of Yale University
students dedicated to fostering awareness of international conflicts
that do not receive sufficient attention. ICRG studies the political,
economic, and cultural interactions between international actors,
striving to analyze the underlying reasons for each international
conflict and to emphasize the possibilities for conflict resolution.
Each year, ICRG organizes a conference on a different conflict in
which parties to a conflict are brought together to present their
vies as well as engage in constructive discussion. |
 |
| Implementation |
 |
| ICRG
typically organizes and hosts annual conferences on international
conflicts, but it retains the flexibility to organize other types
of events since some conflicts may require a different approach. Each
event encourages both sides of a particular conflict to participate
in a non-confrontational discussion. A large body of members provides
the necessary institutional framework for organizing conferences and
other events. In order
to provide a variety of perspectives and stimulate participants to
focus on the main issues, the participants are drawn from various
disciplines. Professionals from the spheres of academia, politics
and business as well as intellectuals and other qualified individuals
are invited to each event. |

A
Conference on Greek-Turkish Relations" |
 |
On November
5-6, 1999, the International Conflict Research Group at Yale (ICRG)
hosted "Bridging the Gap:
A Conference on Greek-Turkish Relations," with the participation of
the Greek Ambassador, his Excellency Alexandre Philon, the Assistant
Secretary of State for European Affairs, Mr. Marc Grossman, and
leading international scholars of conflict resolution. Led by
distinguished Yale Professors, the two-day conference examined
the historical, political and cultural dimensions of the
Turkish-Greek conflict while focusing on possibilities for conflict
resolution. Issues were approached through panel discussions,
keynote speeches and cultural events. Through an interdisciplinary
group of scholars and leading government officials, the conference
aimed to find a balance between theoretical and practical approaches
to this conflict. Participants included distinguished academics,
leading politicians, artists, and journalists from Greece, Turkey
and the United States. The conference was a great success!

"Bordering
on Peace: A Conference on India-Pakistan Relations" |
 |
| On April
6-7, 2001, ICRG hosted "Bordering on Peace: A Conference on
India-Pakistan Relations." The conference served to promote knowledge
of the nature of this conflict as well as understanding of the two
countries and of South Asian politics in general. The conference explored the historical, political, economic, and cultural dimensions of
the conflict through panel discussions, keynote speeches, and cultural
events. With an interdisciplinary group of panelists, ICRG provided
multiple perspectives on varied topics, seeking a balance between
theoretical and practical approaches to this conflict. Panelists included distinguished politicians, academics, businessmen, journalists,
and artists from India, Pakistan, and around the world. ICRG thus hopes to
further a constructive and sustained dialogue on peace and cooperation
between the two neighbors. As previously, the conference was
immensely constructive and successful! Click here for the conference schedule. |
