Yale LGBTQ Affinity Group
About Us | Upcoming Events
The Yale LGBTQ Affinity Group was created in 2008 to help foster a more welcoming and respectful campus community for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer individuals and their allies with a primary focus on the retention and edification of Yale employees. The group is open to all Yale employees, representing a diverse range of departments and interests at Yale.
Goals
- Create a personal and professional network of LGBTQ Yale employees
- Initiate and support diversity at Yale, including recruitment, outreach, retention and diversity education on LGBTQ issues
- Develop and sustain linkages with the New Haven and state LGBTQ community
What We Do
Throughout the year, the Yale LGBTQ Affinity Group meets and offers events to address topics relevant to all Yale employees, with an emphasis on LGBTQ-specific issues. In addition to holding monthly meetings, which are open to all members, we work together in five committees to accomplish specific aims:
• The Programming Committee coordinates all social and educational events put on by the group.
• The Communications & Marketing Committee publicizes events and manages the group’s electronic information.
• The Community Service Project Committee identifies and addresses need within the New Haven and state communities by organizing group service projects.
• The University Policy Committee researches and advises the University regarding policies that affect LGBTQ employees.
• The Membership & Outreach Committee focuses on ways to reach all Yale employees who share our interests or goals.
If you are interested in becoming an active member of the LGBTQ steering committee, please contact the group at lgbtqnetwork@yale.edu.
