Program and
Philosophy
The YLS Early
Learning Center is a small daycare center serving the Yale Law School community
and Yale University. The YLS Early Learning Center provides a safe, challenging
environment where young children can stretch their social, emotional, physical,
and intellectual development. We believe that children from a very young
age benefit from interaction with other children; we believe that they
do not benefit from regimentation. Our teachers use the group setting to
help children learn to recognize their own needs and desires, to respect
others and cooperate with them, and to gain confidence in social activities.
Background
The YLS Early
Learning Center is a private, non-profit program created by Yale Law School
parents and staff in 1987 with the mission of providing day care services
to the Law School and the University community. At that time, the Center
hired its first and only Director, Christine Reberkenny-Frisketti. Under
her guidance, the Center established and has maintained the highest standards
of early childhood education; in 1995 the Center received accreditation
by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The Early
Learning Center has from its inception remained a very small program, today
serving no more than ten children at a time. The YLS Early Learning Center
is housed in a corner of the Yale Law School Quadrangle.
