Representative Duties:

  • Under direct supervision, assists in dispatching the patrol officers and detectives in response to calls and emergencies. Relays instructions, orders and information.
  • Receives and records all incoming calls from officers, staff, students and the public, calling for police assistance or general information. Assists in servicing the calls.
  • Secures information from callers and dispatched officers. Monitors and responds to fire and security alarm systems and to emergency calls.
  • Provides information to faculty, staff, students and the public. Issues keys and equipment.
  • Uses computer-aided dispatching equipment to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.
  • Maintains various documents related to police and security activities.
  • Performs clerical functions incidental to office activities.

Required Knowledge:

  • General knowledge, high school level; detailed but narrow work-related knowledge.
  • Limited acquaintance with University organizational policies and procedures.

Required Skills:

  • Copies data from standard or easily understandable formats.
  • Files already labeled material using a straightforward alphabetical, or chronological system.
  • Understands non-routine notes, written instructions, and general policy statements.
  • Writes simple short informal notes, fills out simple forms.
  • Regular, skilled use of more complex machines including word processors or personal computers.

Office and Administrative Skills:

  • Keyboards forms, labels and other simple material.
  • Enters and retrieves data from given sources on a personal computer.
  • Screens and refers callers and visitors to the appropriate individual.

Experience, Education and Formal Training:

  • One year of related work experience and a high school level education, or an Associate’s degree; or the equivalent combination of experience and education.

3. Preferred: State Certification as an Emergency Telecommunications Operator & NCIC/ Collect Terminal Operator. Experience in police procedures & familiarity with emergency codes and guidelines

Skills and Abilities:
1. Clear, concise speaking voice must be courteous and diplomatic.
2. Demonstrated ability to work under stress and emotional situations.
3. Keyboarding and computer background.
