Child Graduating
If your 19-25 year old dependent has graduated from college, this qualifies as a life event and allows you to disenroll your dependent from Yale's medical or dental providers. You must notify the Benefits Office within 30 days from the date of the qualifying event.
You must complete an Enrollment/Change form, as well as a Benefits Revision Request form and submit to the Benefits Office at 155 Whitney Ave, Room 130 or via fax at (203) 432-7575.
Can I continue my child's health, dental insurance after graduation?
Yes, if the child is under the age of 25 and financially dependent upon you for support, the child may continue to be covered under your medical plan. Your child must be a full-time student in order to continue to have coverage under your dental plan.
The following documentation will be required in order to maintain coverage for your 19-25 year old dependent:
- Proof of student status (ie; tuition bill, class schedule, letter from registrar's office).
- Top portion of a recent federal tax return identifying the dependent.
If you child does not meet the eligibility requirements listed above, COBRA provisions will apply.
After graduation, does my child remain as a qualifying dependent for the Health Care Reimbursement Account?
As long as your child is a covered dependent under your medical and dental plan, you may submit claims for reimbursement.
