700 Performance and Conduct
701 Progressive Discipline
702 Immediate Discipline
Certain standards of performance and conduct are expected of all employees. Setting these standards and meeting them become mutual responsibilities of the employee and his or her supervisor. When it appears that an employee cannot or will not meet such expectations, the supervisor should take action to solve the problem in accordance with appropriate procedures.
Initially, performance and conduct problems should be discussed informally between the supervisor and the employee, and each should make an effort to establish a constructive environment in which to bring about change. The Placement and Staff Relations Sections of the Department of Human Resources are available and should be consulted for assistance and advice. The University Assistance Program is an additional resource for both supervisor and employee in cases in which personal problems may be affecting job performance.
