610 Spousal Tuition Benefit

Spouses of managerial and professional staff may receive a tuition reduction if accepted for courses taken in: the Yale College Program for Special Students (non-degree students only); in the Yale Summer Programs; and in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (Division of Special Registration and Masters degree programs only).

610.1 Eligibility for Tuition Reduction

  1. The reduction is available to spouses of University managerial and professional employees who are:
    • regular full-time employees, or
    • regular part-time employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week and who have completed at least six months of service immediately prior to the time the spouse enrolls in the course.
  2. The tuition benefit is limited to one course per term.

610.2 Admission to Program

Enrollment in courses in any of the participating programs must be gained through regular admissions procedures, including evaluation of the applicant's academic qualifications and using the same standards as are normally followed in the program.

A candidate must complete the regular application process, including payment of an application fee.

610.3 Application for Reduced Tuition

The spouse, once admitted to the program, may apply for reduced tuition forms through the Benefits Office. Completed forms should be returned to that office.

610.4 Tuition Reduction

The tuition rate with this benefit is 50% of the per-course tuition charged in the program in which the spouse is enrolled. The benefit is pro-rated for spouses of part-time staff by dividing the number of regularly scheduled hours by 37.5.

610.5 Course Credit

Credits earned in Yale College or Yale Summer Program courses through the reduced benefit tuition may not be applied toward a Yale degree.
