609 Epidemiology and Public Health Program

Regular managerial and professional employees who are accepted for degrees or non-degree study in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, School of Medicine, may take courses each semester at a reduced tuition.

609.1 Eligibility for Program

  1. A participant must
    • be a regular full-time employee or a part-time employee scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week
      AND
    • have been employed at Yale University for one year immediately prior to entering any course work under this Program
      AND
    • have written permission of his or her supervisor to participate.
  2. iEmployees are expected to meet full work requirements of their regular jobs while participating in course work at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. Therefore, decisions and approvals regarding the granting or release time and/or adjusted work schedules remain with the employee's supervisor.
  3. Credits earned in non-degree studies may be:
    • transferred and applied toward a degree (with the approval of the appropriate officials) in another university or college, or
    • applied, with department approval, toward a degree in the Yale Department of Epidemiology and Public Health conditional on the employee's acceptance into a degree program.

609.2 Application to Program

  1. Degree study
    • a candidate must complete the application process for admission to the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, and qualifications will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee of the Department. An application fee is required.
  2. Non-degree study
    • a candidate for non-degree course study must be approved by the Associate Dean for Public Health. No application fee is required.

609.3 Reduced Fees

Once admitted to the courses, the managerial and professional staff member may apply for reduced tuition at the Registrar's Office, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, School of Medicine. When approved for reduced tuition, the staff member will pay one-half of the current tuition per course. Tuition reduction for less than full-time staff members will be prorated equal to the staff member's regular work hours divided by 37.5.

609.4 Payroll Deduction for Tuition

Full-time staff may elect a payroll deduction plan to meet the tuition charges. One quarter of the tuition must be paid at the time of registration, and the remainder will be deducted from the employee's paycheck at the end of the following three months.
