311 Flexible Benefits

Yale's Flexible Benefits Plan permits an employee to save money by reducing taxable compensation and receiving instead certain non-taxable benefits offered by the University. Those who elect to participate in the plan complete a form requesting the University to pay the employee's share of monthly premiums and authorizing reimbursement to the University through monthly salary reduction. Additional tax savings may be achieved by estimating annual out-of-pocket medical, dental, or child care expenses, and, through salary reductions, accumulating a fund from which the employee may be reimbursed for approved claims.

Employees (except new employees) must enroll prior to the beginning of a calendar year to cover premiums or expenses in that year. New employees may file an application immediately and enter the Plan on the first of the month following the effective date of hire or, alternatively, may file at any time within that month and begin participation on the first of the following month.
