301 Holidays

Regular employees scheduled to work 20 hours or more each week receive pay for University holidays.

The eight University holidays are:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Junior’s Birthday
  • Good Friday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is observed as a holiday. If it falls on a Sunday, the holiday is observed on the following Monday.

If a University holiday falls on an employee's regularly scheduled day off, the employee will be granted an equivalent day off at a time mutually agreeable to the supervisor and the employee. Each holiday will be counted as 20% of the employee's work week.  Such alternative time off must be taken prior to the end of the fiscal year or be forfeited. If time off cannot be scheduled because of operational needs, compensation will be paid for the day.

When employees are required to work on a holiday, supervisors must arrange alternate time off at the rate of one day off for each holiday worked. Such alternate time must be taken before the end of the fiscal year or be forfeited. When circumstances will not permit compensatory time off before the end of the fiscal year, compensation may be paid for the day.

Holidays that fall during an employee's vacation are not counted as vacation days.
