eHRAF Tutorial: Using Terms from the A-Z Index in your Search

UPPER CASE TERMS

When using terms from the A-Z Index in your search you must be aware of the difference between terms in upper case and lower case.  For example, "MYTHOLOGY, 773" is an all upper case term and represents an actual OCM category.  Searching for the OCM subject code 773 retrieves  all the documents with information on mythology, whether it is about mythical ages, mythical beings, "good and evil" myths, creations myths, etc.

Lower case terms
For example, "mythical ages, 773" is a lower case term and is a word or phrase taken from every-day language and listed with reference to a broader OCM subject category.  When using terms in lower case for your Text Search, you (usually) have to use them in an OCM/word search combination.  For example, for finding information on "mythical ages," use the word "age" (and other words) in combination with the OCM subject code "773."
