Horsley Lab Members

Jill Goldstein

Originally from Worcester (aka WISTA), MA, Jill graduated with her BS from WPI in 2008.  She is a graduate student in MCDB studying transcriptional mechanisms that control stem cell activity in the skin

Eric Festa

Eric graduated from Central Connecticut in 2008.  He was a technician in the lab focusing on paracrine regulation of stem cell activity in the skin.

Ana Tadeu, Ph.D.

Ana originally is from Portugal, and got her Ph.D. from Bill Earnshaw’s lab in 2008 studying molecular regulation of mitosis.  Ana is a postdoc in the lab studying transcriptional mechanisms that control developmental decisions in the skin.

Lab Head: Valerie Horsley, Ph.D.

Originally from the Southeast, Valerie graduated from Furman University with her B.S. and from Emory with her Ph.D.  She joined the faculty at Yale after finishing her postdoctoral work with Elaine Fuchs at Rockefeller University.

Natalie Roberts, Ph.D.

Natalie is from England and she received her Ph.D. from Graham Anderson’s lab at the University of Birmingham studying the development of thymic epithelium. She is currently a postdoc in the lab interested in the role of Blimp1 in the thymus.

Barbara Schmidt

Barbara graduated from Boston College with a BS in biology in 2009. She is currently a graduate student in the Horsley lab studying the processes of wound healing and skin regeneration.

Katie Rosowski

Katie is originally from MA, and graduated from Cornell in 2007. She is also a current graduate student in the lab who is interested in mechanics relating to embryonic stem cells.

Heather McGee

Heather is an MD/Ph.D. student from California who finished her work on a collaborative project in immunobiology in the lab in 2011. She graduated from UC Berkeley and got her masters at the University of Cambridge.

Previous Horsley Lab Members

Yonglu Che

Yonglu has been working in the Horsley lab since 2010. He is currently a Yale senior from Michigan who is double majoring in physics and biology. He is focusing on the mechanics of the skin in the Horsley lab, and is hoping to attend medical school after graduation.

Aaron Mertz

Aaron is from Chicagoland and got an A.B. in physics from Washington University in St. Louis and also studied history of science at the University of Oxford. He is a graduate student co-advised by Eric Dufresne and is researching the mechanics of intercellular adhesion and tissue formation.

Guillermo Rivera, Ph.D.

Guillermo is from Mexico and received his Ph.D. from the University of York. His work in the Horsley lab will be focusing on how adipocytes act within the stem cell niche.

Rachel Zwick

Rachel is a graduate student researching skin wound healing and developmental processes in the mammary glands.  A California native, after graduating from Connecticut College she worked at Weill Cornell Medical College where she  studied changes in the pulmonary airways that lead to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Brett Shook, Ph.D.

Brett is from Pennsylvania and received his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. He is a postdoc in the lab investigating interactions between the stem cell niche and immune cells during wound healing.

Sam Lin, Ph.D.

Sam is from Connecticut and is working on understanding cell fate in human embryonic stem cells. She received her Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
