Professor Cabanes received his Ph.D. from the Université Paris I-Panthéon Sorbonne in 2002. His work focuses on both European and American military history and the impact of war on soldiers and civilians. He is the author of La Victoire Endeuillée: La Sortie de Guerre des Soldats Francais, 1918-1920 (A Victory in Mourning: French Soldiers Coming out of War, 1918-1920), co-author of 11 Septembre: La Grande Guerre des Américains, and co-author of Passions Albanaises: De Berisha au Kosovo, and co-editor of Les societes en guerre, 1911-1946. He is currently working on the narratives of the soldiers' returns in the Twentieth Century.
