Shanta Dutta compiled the following data, ultimately to form a nationwide listing of Ph.D theses (starred: *) and M.Phil. dissertations in India, by the painstaking method of hand writing individual letters to over fifty Heads of English Departments from among the two hundred-odd universities across the country. Shanta has no union database available "at the switch of a computer button" to assist her in compiling the collection, but she remains enthusiastically committed to updating the list at regular intervals.
