Routes
In an effort to raise awareness for Habitat across as much of the country as possible, the three HBC trips travel along very different routes. The Northern Route starts in New Haven, Connecticut and traverses the scenic and difficult terrain of the northern United States and southern Canada. The Habitat riders bike through Connecticut, New York, Ontario, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington. After 4,000 miles, the riders end their epic journey in Seattle, Washington.
The Central Route starts in New Haven, Connecticut and cuts through hilly Pennsylvania into the rolling hills of Ohio. From there, the riders go through flat Indiana until the oasis of Chicago, where they enjoy a day off. The ride then follows a path through Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and southern Idaho before reaching the Columbia River in Oregon, which the bikers will trail all the way into gorgeous Portland.
The Southern Route also starts from New Haven, CT. From there the cyclists cross New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California. After nine challenging weeks, the group triumphantly crosses the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.
