  • The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (to be known as ARRA or the Recovery Act) includes $10.4 billion for NIH and $3 billion for NSF.

  • NIH announces new business processes to coincide with the transition of Individual NRSA Fellowship (“F”) applications to electronic submission for the August 8 and later deadlines. One of the changes: while applications will be submitted through grants.gov, the required 3-5 confidential letters of recommendation must be submitted directly via eRA Commons.
  • Office of Research Administration (ORA) Newsletter: May-June 2009 provides valuable information on the following topics:

  • The FY10 Federal Rate Agreement (dated 5/21/09) is now available. FY10 F&A rates remain the same as for FY09. New FY10 fringe benefit rates have been approved and new FY11 provisional fringe benefit rates have been established.     (2) NSF Using Fastlane Only
  • Effective immediately, NSF will use Fastlane exclusively for NSF proposal submissions. Several other agencies have taken similar steps to restrict some or all of their application submissions to their own agency systems while Grants.gov tackles volume-related service issues.
  • Reminder ... The NSF Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide, April 2009 is effective for all proposals submitted on or after April 6, 2009.

The Office of Grant and Contract Administration (GCA) provides assistance to faculty and staff in obtaining and managing sponsored awards that support scholarly activities while assuring proper stewardship of those funds. The office is charged with review and approval of proposals sent to all sponsors.

The Office of Grant and Contract Financial Administration (GCFA) works closely with faculty and business office staff to ensure financial compliance and proper accounting of externally sponsored funds. GCFA's responsibilities include financial reporting and closeout, effort reporting, and development of the facilities and administrative cost rate.
