Traveling to Yale University

Getting here by Plane, Train, Bus or Car Transportation & Travel To/From New Haven

When to Arrive - New Students
New students should arrive and be settled in time for New Student Orientation. Please confirm with the Graduate Housing office or your off-campus property manager or landlord regarding the times available for accessing your apartment or dormitory.

New students arriving in New Haven after about 8 pm should plan to spend the night in a hotel at their own expense, as housing managers will probably not be available to open apartments until the next morning. Please note that most major area airports are between two and five from New Haven via shuttle bus, train or car. It is best to plan to arrive at these airports in the early morning to early afternoon.

Street Parking Note: Please note that there is no overnight on-street parking near most graduate dormitories and in many downtown neighborhoods. There is zone parking in some neighborhoods, like East Rock, where residents can get a zone permit. If street parking is not allowed overnight in your area, park temporarily in a metered space to unload the vehicle, then arrange for parking in a Yale or commercial garage soon after arrival. There is free public parking in most Yale surface lots on campus from 4:00pm- 7:00am weekdays and starting Fridays at 4:00pm through Monday at 7am.
