The Yale Graduate and Professional
Student Senate (GPSS) represents over 5,000 graduate
and professional students
in 11 G&P schools at Yale. Its goal is to foster interaction
between G&P students through the congregation of student
groups at the Graduate and Professional Student Center
at Yale (GPSCY), the sponsorship of academic, intellectual,
and social events, and through community service and charitable
events. The GPSS seeks to influence the course of the University
through representation on University Committees, by expressing
views of the student body to the administration, and by
issuing statements of position to the media and administration.
The GPSS operates the GPSCY, including
its ballrooms, meeting rooms, and student group offices,
and supervises
the operation of a student-run bar and social center, Gryphon’s
Pub.
The GPSS also funds graduate student
organizations and events. See the website for forms and
details.
Senators and Elections- The Senate is
made up of representatives from each
of the graduate and professional schools. Each Senator represents a maximum
of 150 students. Each professional school has a minimum of one Senator per
class, and the Graduate School is represented by an equal number of Senators
representing the Humanities, Social Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical
Sciences. Elections normally are held in the spring of
each year by school; contact the
GPSS above if interested in representing the Graduate School. |
