Many graduate students are unaware of the extraordinary range of career routes open to a person with a graduate degree from Yale. Others are interested in pursuing non-traditional careers, but do not know how to look for or land such a job. As in past Mentoring Workshops, the GSAA hopes to help current graduate students and alumni explore these issues with panels featuring Yale Graduate School alumni working in a wide variety of careers – the arts, business, science and technology, and more. But feedback from previous Career Workshops told us you wanted more. So we listened, and now we’re delivering.
Participants said they wanted to hear what seasoned professionals who make hiring decisions had to say. So this year we’ve created the panel “Where you can go from Yale,” featuring alumni in high-level positions in a variety of fields. Participants said they wanted to hear more from younger alumni who had recently gone through the “post-Yale” experience. Our second panel will be “Where I went from Yale,” featuring younger alumni, who will talk about their own experiences. Participants wanted more specialized, hands-on information. This year, we’ve added a series of break-out sessions, each with its own theme. Participants said they would like to hear something about traditional academic jobs too, so this year we’ve added the breakout session, “Getting and Staying on the Tenure-Track.”
Upcoming Mentoring Workshop: “Where do I go from Yale?”
Have you ever found yourself asking, “Where do I go from Yale?” This is the question the Graduate School Alumni Association (GSAA) wants to help current graduate students and alumni explore at its third annual “Where do I go from Yale?” Mentoring Workshop on Tuesday, May 14, from 10:00 am to 4:15 pm in the Loria Center for the History of Art, 190 York Street.
A networking reception will follow at the Golden Center on Park Street. The program this year will include presentations on non-traditional careers in the arts, business, and technology, as well as several new panels and break-out sessions. One panel will feature seasoned professionals at the top of their game; another will bring recent alumni to campus to talk about landing their first jobs, and a new breakout session will cover tenure-track academic careers.
