BLUE DOG CAFÉ

WHAT?
Good food and good coffee have fuelled the imaginations of scholars for years. Good coffee makes good thinkers. That’s why the Blue Dog Café is literally at the center of Yale Graduate student life.

In 2005 the Blue Dog Café introduced the award-winning coffee of Intelligentsia® roasters, who roast some of the nation’s best specialty coffees. Committed to quality and taste, they professionally train all of the Yale student baristas that work at the café. Their name comes from the vibrant intellectual culture of Europe where potent coffee and potent ideas first began to thrive, and which continues through tradition of institutions like Yale University. Every day we offer specialty, organic, Intelligentsia® coffees, as well as all varieties of espresso beverages. On Friday we offer a small coffee and a freshly baked cookie for $1.50. In October we celebrate Apples, featuring apple pie, apple cakes, mulled cider and fresh, local apples. In November you can indulge in our Pumpkin specials, including pumpkin cranberry pie, pumpkin cake and pumpkin latte’s. And our December features include chocolate and candy canes.

Our day-to-day menu showcases the baking and sandwiches of Indian Neck Market of Branford and Judie’s European Bakery of New Haven, as well as locally made salads and sandwiches. We are pleased to offer Stoneyfield Farm Organic Yogurt products, Intelligentsia® Organic coffees, Republic herbal, black and rooibus teas, as well as a variety of Tropicana juices and a large selection of Odwalla products. Always check the Blue Dog Café bulletin board or the McDougal Notes for new features.

Cross the large courtyard on your right to the glass-doored foyer, enter the foyer, and take the door to your left; or, go straight into HGS, then follow the corridor past the Dining Hall to the Common Room.

WHEN?
Surrounded by stained glass, wood casings and comfortable furniture, you can enjoy our features Monday through Thursday, 8:30am- 5pm, 4:30pm on Fridays. We accept cash, Eli Bucks, or University Bursar charge.

WHY?

By choosing the Blue Dog Café, you support one of Yale’s self-sustaining graduate projects which, in turn, helps us to support local farmers, bakers and organic, fair-trade merchants. Plus, it’s a great place for students from all the graduate and professional schools to converge. The Common Room offers magazines, several daily newspapers, wireless internet, as well as two standing computer stations. And, since we are dedicated to students, we keep our prices low and offer weekly specials, vegetarian menu selections and frequent buyer cards. Ask at the Café for details and product information.

WORK?

Can you work at the Blue Dog? If you are a student at Yale, see the Student Employment site for the job listing, or drop off your resume at the beginning of the semester. We are always looking to hire good people with an appreciation for coffee, food and friendly service!
