Blue Dog Café

Located within the inspring surroundings of the McDougal Common Room and furnished with plush reading chairs and couches and tables overlooking the courtyard of the Hall of Graduate Studies, the Blue Dog Café is a gourmet coffee bar operated by graduate students. Suitable for study or socializing, the Café is wireless-ready and maintains a supply of periodicals and games for patrons to enjoy.

The Blue Dog Café is a gourmet coffee bar offering a light breakfast, lunch and snack menu featuring many local, organic and fair-trade products. The Café accepts cash, Eli Bucks and University charge, offering affordable prices, weekly specials, vegetarian menu selections and frequent buyer cards. A microwave is available for guests to use.

The Blue Dog uses award-winning Intelligentsia coffee beans, with baristas grinding several varieties daily for drip-brewed and espresso coffee drinks. We sell Harney & Sons Fine Teas, including black, green, and herbal varieties of full leaf sachets.

Reusable Travel Mug Discounts and Sustainability

The Blue Dog strives toward sustainable operations by offering washable china mugs, cup and plates to customers instead of paper; providing discounts for those bringing their own reusable mugs; selling local and sustainable food and beverages; and using recycled paper products and washable rags when possible.

Students who utilize a reusable mug may purchase a small brewed coffee or tea for $1. Blue Dog Mugs are on sale for $3.50 at the Café, but students may bring their own mug in order to receive the discount.

Baristas Wanted

Yale students seeking employment as a barista at the Café may apply online. The McDougal Grad Life staff and student fellow Café manager hire baristas in September each year.
