Recruitment of Diverse
Scholars at the Yale Graduate School
The Office for Diversity
and Equal Opportunity’s recruitment
efforts has been focused on outreach which maximizes opportunities
to meet diverse students interested in graduate study in a wide
variety of settings. The Office recognizes that graduate study
is a very individual choice, one that often requires a great
deal of long-term, sustained interactions and the development
of relationships
with undergraduate institutions who are committed to graduate
education, particularly for students who have been traditionally
underrepresented
in graduate school programs.

|
To
this end, the recruitment initiatives developed by the Office
for Diversity has been three-pronged and include (1) coordination
of institution and geographical region-specific recruitment trips
and attendance at graduate fairs and conferences attended by
large numbers of diverse students interested in graduate study;
(2) the development
of partnerships with institutions who serve large numbers of
diverse students in order to nurture and
encourage the best and the brightest students from these institutions
to consider applying to Yale for graduate school; and (3) involvement
in national consortium efforts that allow for collaboration with
other institutions interested in increasing the numbers of diverse
students who pursue graduate study.
