Required
Examinations
Official score reports must be submitted for all
required examinations. Required or acceptable examinations are listed
below as is the method of submission. If you are considering
applying for the Fall of 2009 please register for the examination
you will need as soon as possible as testing centers and available
testing dates fill quickly.
The
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is required
of all applicants to the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
In addition, certain Departments
& Programs require scores from one of the Subject Tests.
The Educational Testing
Service administers the GRE in the United States and abroad.

from this examination must be "released" to Yale University
Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (code 3987). Paper copies
are not acceptable and scores released to other schools of Yale
University cannot be transferred or used.
The
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required
of all applicants whose native language is not English. This requirement
is waived only for applicants who will have received a degree, prior
to matriculation at Yale, from a university or college where English
is the primary language of instruction. Scores from this
examination must be "released" to Yale University Graduate
School of Arts & Sciences (code 3987). Paper copies are not
acceptable and scores released to other schools of Yale University
cannot be transferred or used.
The
General Management Admission Test (GMAT) is required
of all applicants to the Yale University Graduate School of Arts
and Sciences PhD program in Management. Please use code 3TJ-30-78
for the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Paper
copies are not acceptable and scores released to other schools
of Yale University cannot be transferred or used. For

Test
of Spoken English scores are strongly encouraged prior
to enrollment from all applicants who accept offers of admission
to Ph.D. programs and whose native language is not English.
Students who do not demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English
may be retested and/or asked to take courses in English for speakers
of other languages. A high level of proficiency is required for
students to serve as teaching fellows.
