Academics

The Graduate School is a place where the life of the mind can flourish. In order to maintain this haven for unfettered intellectual inquiry, the Office of the Dean provides leadership in reviewing academic programs, promoting strong mentoring relationships among students and faculty, developing opportunities for the professional development of graduate students, and fostering an environment of academic integrity. The academic deans of the Graduate School are responsible for the administration of graduate programs, normally in consultation with the directors of graduate studies, and for the academic and personal well-being of students. They participate in decisions regarding admissions, financial aid, academic performance, and the application of the regulations and policies of the Graduate School. A student with concerns about any of these issues that cannot be addressed by their DGS or departmental registrar should make an appointment with the academic dean who oversees his or her department.
