Summer Visitors to Yale

The Graduate Housing Office has limited housing available during June and July each summer for individuals studying or working at Yale. For summer 2009, Visitor Housing is available from Friday June 5th until Friday July 31st. Early arrival and late stay requests cannot be honored.

Applications for Summer Visitor Housing are open from March 1st – July 15th. To submit an application for Summer Housing, please click here. After you enter your name, be sure to use the pull-down menu for the “Summer Application”.

Notification of your acceptance into Summer Visitor Housing will be made starting April 15th . Documentation from the Yale department or program hosting your visit is required when you submit your application request. The Summer 2009 rate for housing is $110 per week. Corresponding documentation can be sent to the Graduate Housing Dormitory Office at 420 Temple St, New Haven CT 06511; emailed to grad.dorms@yale.edu, or faxed to the Graduate Housing Office at (203) 432-4578.

The bedrooms are available in various graduate dormitory buildings for graduate or professional school students, scholars, and visitors enrolled in or participating in summer studies, research or summer classes at Yale University. Graduate Housing staff will assign you to a single occupancy bedroom in any of the available residence halls. Requests for specific buildings or bedrooms cannot always be honored.

  • Rooms are furnished with a twin-sized extra long bed frame and mattress, dresser, desk & chair, bookcase and closet.
  • Bed linens, blankets, pillows, and towels are not provided.
  • Most student bedrooms on campus are NOT air conditioned. Visitors are NOT permitted to install air conditioner units in student rooms.
  • Microwaves or pets are not are permitted. Mini-refrigerators are allowed and encouraged. The GHO does not provide refrigerators in student bedrooms.
  • Smoking is not allowed in the bedrooms or in the buildings.
  • Suggested items to bring: a fan, mattress pad and bed linens, clothes hangers, bathrobe and slippers or shower shoes, a desk lamp (there is limited overhead lighting), and a laundry bag.

The buildings have many different resident amenities, such as comfortable study areas, pianos, vending machines, pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball and air hockey tables, as well as computer rooms, TV areas, and patio with picnic tables. Each building has a laundry room and kitchen/dining area.

Each room has a telephone, cable TV, and ethernet connection. The telephone land-line can be activated by contacting the Telecommunications Department after your arrival. Check their website for rates or installation fees at Telephone Services at Yale. The ethernet connection works for non-Yale individuals with a standard ethernet cord. Only individuals with a NetID will be able to access Yale’s wireless internet system.
