Guidelines for Property Owners or Sublettors

Guidelines for Submitting a Listing Application

  • Yale University upholds the principle of equality in housing opportunity. We insist that landlords or agents who list with the Off-Campus Listing Service abide by the Connecticut Statues prohibiting discrimination based on race, creed, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, gender, marital status, age, lawful source of income, mental or physical disability or sexual orientation.
  • If a complaint is filed with an enforcement agency we may remove all listings placed by the defendant until the complaint is resolved. If it is proven that illegal discrimination has occurred, listings will not be re-entered into the system until we have received written certification that the landlord or agent will abide by the statutes in the future.
  • We also reserve the right to remove listings and/or prohibit landlords from placing listings if:
    1. Substandard accommodations have been listed with Yale (verified by the Building Inspection Office)
    2. There is evidence that the rights of tenants have been violated or that inaccurate information was provided to the Off-Campus Listing Service.

How to Place a Rental/Property Sale Listing

  • Please complete the listing application form for rentals or property sales. These forms are available on our Forms page. You can also stop by our office and pick up a form there.
  • List only one rental or house for sale per form. Be sure to fill in all appropriate sections as clearly as possible! Proof-read your form and make sure important information like rental price is included (many people forget to include this!).
  • There are three ways to submit your form—via mail, fax, or in person. When mailing in your form, please include a check made payable to Yale University (sorry—we cannot accept credit card information sent through the mail). Please save your cancelled check as your receipt. To fax in your form, send it to (203) 432-4578. You will need to call our office with your credit card information, otherwise your listing will not be posted! When submitting in person, we accept all three forms of payment (cash, check, or credit card).
  • Listings for rentals are $40/listing. Rental listings last 45 days before they are removed from our database.
  • Listings for properties for sale are $30/listing. Property for sale listings last 90 days before they are removed from our database.
  • Yale students who wish to submit a summer sublet or share listing may do so at no charge. A current student ID is required.
  • Acceptable methods of payment include checks made payable to Yale University, credit card (Visa and Mastercard only), and cash. Payment receipts will only be issued to listings submitted in person.
  • All listings are valid for 45 days (or 90 days for Property Sales). Landlords/homeowners are required to notify our office upon rental or sale of listing.
  • The Off-Campus Housing office does not guarantee that you will receive calls or that your unit/property will be rented or sold.
