For tenants, our services include both long and short term housing listings*, roommate searches, information on neighborhoods and transportation, and the basics of finding an apartment and living off-campus. If you are a property owner or a renter who is looking for a roommate, you can advertise your property for rent or sale by submitting a listing application. For more information, please use the links to the left. *****Revised Applications for Rental & Sale Listings****As of January 1, 2008, the only Rental and Sale Listing Applications that will be accepted by the Yale Off Campus Housing Service are those currently available to download on our website. These new applications contain a disclosure statement at the bottom of the application. All property owners will be required to sign this statement prior to posting their listing. The paragraph states the following: Renters who believe that a property owner or sublettor has failed to comply with applicable housing laws, regulations, or provisions of a lease, or has engaged in conduct that is otherwise unethical or wrongful are encouraged to file a complaint with the Off Campus Housing Service. This office may, at its sole discretion, take action on such complaints, including, but not limited to, making complaints available to other students, removing existing listings, and prohibiting future listings by the subject property owner or sublettor. By signing below, I consent to these terms as a condition for listing my property with the Off Campus Housing Service. Compliments and Complaints concerning rentals made through Yale University Off Campus Listing Service can be submitted by tenants and will be kept on file at the office located at 420 Temple Street, Room G6. A listing of compliments and complaints will be available for review by all potential renters that are part of the Yale community. When a complaint is filed with an enforcement agency, Yale may suspend or remove any listings by this individual/company until the complaint is resolved. If the complaint has been upheld, all listings current and future, made by this individual/company will be restricted. Reinstatements to our service will only be considered after written certification that past problems, issues and/or violations have been resolved. All listings that are restricted under this procedure will forfeit all costs associated with the listings. Yale also services the right to restrict listings to its service for any reason, including violation of city and state law and inaccurate information submitted on the application. Attention LandlordsIt has come to our attention that several landlords have been contacted by people using the Off-Campus Housing Service database. The prospective "renters" communicate by email and are anxious to rent the apartment. So much so that they are willing to provide a full years rent in advance. Payments are forwarded to the landlord in the form of a check or money order and are often in excess of the full years rent amount. The landlord is then asked to remit the overpayment to the renter to cover travel expenses, furnishings, etc. If this happens to you, DO NOT SEND OR RETURN MONEY to a prospective renter until the check or money order has had ample time to clear. Banks will often unknowingly accept fraudulent checks at first, and contact the accountholders and discredit the check only later when the fraud is discovered. You may choose also to decline to accept the check or money order at all. If you suspect a scam is in progress, you may request that the bank, post office or police investigate the situation.
