Chapter History

During his junior year, Brother Dexter Upshaw, Jr. MC'06 sought to pursue a fraternity experience that would uphold strong values of brotherhood while not compromising his spiritual walk as a Christian. Many traditional organizations on campus did not appeal to him; thus, he continued to look for an organization that would meet his needs.

Bro. Upshaw finally came across Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity in the spring of 2004, and spent the summer in his hometown of Houston, Texas in order to obtain membership. Crossing in the summer of 2004, Bro. Upshaw saw the need to start a chapter back at school to further encourage men to grow and show excellence spiritually, mentally, physically and socially while maintaing a strong Christian brotherhood.

Upon arriving to school in the fall of 2004, Bro. Upshaw introduced the organization to men on campus, holding the first interest meeting for the founding line. On October 2, 2004, he crossed the founding line, The Seven Foundations of Revelations, of the new Kappa Kings Chapter on the campus of Yale University. Those founding brothers were Adrian J. Hopkins BC'06 , Louis Daniels Jr. TD'08 , Yakubu Agbese TC'05, Terrell Sledge DC'08, Marcus McLin ES'07, Rashaud Hannah TD'08, and Spencer Clayton BK'05.

Thus, the Kappa Kings Chapter became the tenth chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity Incorporated. It was also the first chapter in the Northeast region known as the House of Daniel, and noted significant expansion in the Fraternity. In spring of 2005, the chapter welcomed Bro. Kyle Brooks ES'05 to the bond with their second line, Pillar of Fire. The chapter put on many programs to serve their community and campus. In particular, their C.H.I.L.L.s (Christians Happy In Living Life) were popular among students because it provided them an alternative to the college party scene.

In the fall of 2005, brothers crossed five new members with their third line, The Quint-Essentials. These new brothers were Bro. Brandon Wheatley SY'09 , Bro. Thalyn Jarrell George SM'09 , Bro. Rhasaan Nichols MC'08 , Bro. Christopher John Williams BK'08 , and Bro. Clarence Agbi CC'09 . The chapter thrived and continued to excel towards the fraternal vision.
