The 1997 Gordon Research Conference on the Physics and Chemistry of Laser Diagnostics in Combustion will be held July 6-11, 1997 at Plymouth State College (South) in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus (vice-chair) and I (chair) are now planning the program for this conference. I write to solicit your thoughts on what topics should be covered and your suggestions for speakers. A tentative list of program topics and a reply form are included for your convenience. Please fill out this form in order to receive future mailings and copy it for others who may be interested. Email replies are also welcome.
The general format of this Gordon conference will be similar to that of prior years. In the morning and evening sessions, speakers will be invited to make focused presentations on topics of interest with 20 to 25 minutes reserved after each talk for discussions led by session chairpersons. One difference from previous conferences is that the first session will be held on Sunday evening, with the last session on Thursday evening. Posters will also be accepted for presentation in late-afternoon and late-evening sessions. We have space for around ninety 4 ft. x 4 ft. posters. Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus will organize the poster sessions, and conference applications will be received by the Gordon Research Conference office after our second mailing in February, 1997.
Plymouth, New Hampshire is 116 miles north of Boston, Mass. on Interstate 93. As in previous years, charter bus service will be available from Logan Airport in Boston to Plymouth on Sunday, July 6 and from the conference back to Logan Airport on Friday morning, July 11. The conference fees for 1997 have not been announced; in 1996 they were $515 for double occupancy, including all meals. Details of the Gordon Conference costs and the application procedures for travel assistance will be provided in the second mailing. I have set up a web page to provide information for our conference, as well as links to general Gordon Conference information. The address is: http://www.yale.edu/gordon.
We anticipate a stimulating program with many opportunities to discuss the critical issues in laser diagnostics. Please fill out the reply form now and return it to me so that your input may be considered; our final program is due at the GRC office by December 15, 1996. We hope to see you next summer!
