iDance for Global Health

iDance for Global Health is a 10-hour Dance Marathon during which a core group of students remain on their feet to raise money for Yale’s growing involvement in global health efforts. All funds will be given to Amman Imman’s water projects in Niger and Nyaya Health’s health clinic in Nepal.

iDance will involve a variety of interesting activities, contests, theme changes, student performances, and educational displays to keep dancers entertained and inspired all night long. Learn how to salsa, enjoy a bhangra dance hour, and show your commitment to global health!

Global Health Week hopes to promote the following 6 long-term goals:

  1. Introduce students to a lifelong engagement in public service and global health awareness
  2. Demonstrate to students that service is compatible with any career or skill set by involving them in an inspirational display of student commitment to service
  3. Reach out to other global health organizations within Yale University and make a visible show of solidarity for the global health movement on campus
  4. Reach out to global health organizations at other universities across the US and provide a common forum for fundraising and awareness events
  5. Raise a meaningful amount of money for two of Yale’s global health organizations
  6. Have fun…with a cause!

Q & A

Q: What is iDance for Global Health?
A: iDance is Yale's first-ever charity dance marathon being held Saturday, March 29 from 3pm - 1am at the Morse/Stiles Dining Hall. It is being sponsored by the YCC, UOFC 5k competition and all proceeds from the event will go to support Yalie-founded global health projects. In this first year, our goal is to raise $10,000. Look for the 8-foot-tall well around campus to see how much we have raised so far.

Q: What's so special about iDance
A: In addition to TWO dance floors, we?ll have a wide variety of DJs, salsa lessons, themed hours, and tons of games, prizes, food, and raffles so that everyone will be entertained.

Q: How can I get involved?
A: Join your residential college team by finding your college captain; you can fundraise and dance with friends. The residential college that fundraises the most money will win a Nintendo Wii. Sign-ups through YaleStation will be available soon. Registration is $5 and includes a personalized iDance headband and food for the night. You DON'T have to be there the entire night, but each college will coordinate to get ten people there at any given point.

Q: Where does the money go?
A: All proceeds from iDance will go to support two global health service organization that have been started by Yale students: Amman Imman, a project to provide water to communities in Niger, and Nyaya Health, a rural health clinic in Nepal. They do work voluntarily, so every penny goes straight to those most in need. [ Learn More ]

Q: How can I raise money?
A: There are really a lot of ways. Call some family and friends and tell them to go to the website and donate for you. Another easy way is to take an hour and participate in a psychology study. We also can give you envelopes and form letters so you can send letters/emails to friends and family around the world. Ask a FroCo to help you hold a bake sale for your dorm. Have your master hold a study break. Need more ideas? Find your college captain. The two individuals who raise the most money will receive a $250 gift certificate from STA Student Travel Agency for travel to a location of choice!
