Brooke, Edward William (1919-)

Brooke was the first African-American U.S. senator since Reconstruction. A member of the Republican party, he represented Massachusetts in the Senate. Earlier he was a Captain in the U.S. Army, earned a law degree, and as the Attorney General of Massachusetts was known as an aggressive prosecutor and crimebuster.
