Welcome

Welcome to the German Department at Yale. We are an active intellectual community where people write and think and talk about and in the multiple voices of German-language cultural work. Our group is made up of language teachers and language learners, students of critical theory and literature, film and media, history, politics, popular culture, and art.

The people of German share a commitment to interdisciplinary and comparative study in a zone which is not one, but is crossed by migrations, other languages, utopian and dystopian dreams, and an evolving variety of traditions and debates.

On this website you will find our courses, our intellectual biographies, and the ways we can provide you with training at various levels. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with anyone to talk about your interests.
