Beginning German: G115 (First semester)  G116 (Second semester)

Intermediate German: G130 (Third semester) G131 (Fourth semester)

Intensive German (G125): (First through fourth year German in one year)

Third-& Fourth Year Classes: G138: Advanced German (offered in the fall) G139: Advanced German (offered in the spring) G140: German Culture & History in Text and Film (offered in the spring)

Other Classes: G119: German for Reading Knowledge (mainly for graduate students preparing for the proficiency exam for reading) Does not fulfill the language requirement!

Summer Courses

Summer Sessions Courses: General information and application

1. Elementary German (S115/116) 10 weeks in New Haven June to mid-August not offered every year, inquire with summer sessions (credit for one year)

2. Intermediate German (S130/131) 4 weeks in New Haven (June), 4 weeks in Berlin with a host family (July) (credit for one year)

3. German for Reading Knowledge (S120) (mainly for graduate students preparing for the proficiency exam for reading) 5 weeks in New Haven

4. Connecticut/Baden Württemberg Exchange Program (offered through the Dept of Germanic L+L): Heidelberg, Tübingen, Freiburg et. al.

Fokus Deutsch (Annenberg Media) A video instructional series in German for college and high school classrooms and adult learners; 48 fifteen-minute video programs, audio CDs, and coordinated books. A co-production of WGBH Boston, Inter Nationes, and the Goethe-Institut. 1999.
