Additional Graduate Admissions Information
Inquiries regarding admission to graduate school should be made directly
to the Graduate
School Admissions Office.
Applications are now done entirely online
through the Graduate School website, which also lists important
dates and deadlines.
Scores on the General Graduate Record Examinations are required, and
the examination should be taken in November; applicants are encouraged
but not required to submit GRE Subject Test scores. The TOEFL is required
for all applicants for whom English is a second language.

The departments Office of Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) provides
a Graduate Student Handbook
in both pdf and html format.
Generally, Between 5 and 10 new Geology and Geophysics graduate students
are admitted each year; about 30-40 students are currently enrolled. Admitted
students receive financial support that includes full tuition as well
as a stipend (presently $24,000/year) for 5 years (provided that they
remain in "good standing" during that period), medical benefits, and $2,000
to attend professional meetings during their first two years. In return,
graduate students are expected to assist in the teaching of one course
per year.
