Travel directions

Yale is located in New Haven, CT, approximately halfway between New York City and Boston, MA. New Haven is easily accessible by air, rail, and car. Directions and travel times follow. New Haven has several affordable hotels, and limited lodging is available in the homes of Yale grad students. Please use the Contact Us page if you need further information regarding your travel needs. Please see the Yale Campus page for getting around once you arrive.

By Air

Tweed/New Haven Airport is serviced by US Airways out of Philadelphia. From Tweed, Yale can be reached by taxi; it is approximately a 10-minute drive.

Hartford Airport is served by several major airlines. Located about an hour north of New Haven, you will need a rental car or shuttle service to reach New Haven. There is NO public transportation between Hartford Airport and New Haven.

JFK Airport in New York is served by all major airlines. Yale can be reached by using Prime Time Shuttle or Connecticut Limo - this will take approximately 3.5 hours and will cost about $55. Public transportation is both cheaper and quicker. From JFK, take the AirTrain to the Howard Beach Subway Station. Purchase a Metro Card, and take the A line toward Manhattan. At the 42nd St/Port Authority stop transfer to the 7 line to 42nd St/Grand Central. From Grand Central Station you can take the Metro North commuter rail to New Haven - use the ticket window or the kiosks. From New Haven station, you can take a 5-minute cab ride to a downtown hotel. The trip from the airport to New Haven will take 3 hours and will cost up to $30.

LaGuardia Airport in New York is served by most major airlines.Yale can be reached by using Prime Time Shuttle or Connecticut Limo - this will take approximately 3.5 hours and will cost about $55. Public transportation is both cheaper and quicker. From LaGuardia airport, take the M60 public bus to the Harlem/125th Street Metro North station. Bus fare is $2, and must be paid in exact change; bills are not accepted. (Be sure to ask the driver to announce the stop if you are unfamiliar with the area!) Take the Metro North commuter rail to New Haven. From New Haven station, you can take a 5-minute cab ride to a downtown hotel. The entire trip from the airport to New Haven will take about 2.5 hours and will cost up to $25.

By Rail

New Haven's Union Station is served by the Metro North commuter rail (New York's Grand Central Station) and by Amtrak. The Station is several miles from the University. A cab to Phelps Gate is a flat $5 fare; prices may be slightly higher to dowtown hotels. (There is no surcharge for additional passengers in a cab.) It is recommended that you do not walk from the station.

By Car

From points south (including NYC): Take I-95 North towards New Haven. Take exit 48 for I-91 towards Hartford. Almost immediately, take exit 3 for Trumbull St.

From points north (coastal): Take I-95 South towards New York. At exit 48, switch onto I-91 towards Hartford, and prepare to exit at exit 3, Trumbull St.

From points north (including Hartford and Boston): Take I-91 South towards New Haven.  Take exit 3 for Trumbull St.

Driving Directions to the Courtyard Marriott at Yale

Take Rt 95 (North or South) to exit #47 (Rt 34 West,Downtown New Haven, Continue on Rt 34 and take Exit #3. At the third Light,turn right onto Howe St,,then at the sixth light ,turn left onto Whalley Ave. The hotel will be immediately on your left.
