White Mountains of New Hampshire

Hiking in the Whites is like hiking on Mars. The terrain in New Hampshire is like none other on the East Coast; once you're above tree-line, which you are on most trails, it's as if you're walking in the heavens, above the clouds, looking down below to the tiny earth. No trees- just vast expanses of mountain scrub, moss, little shrubs, and scraggly rocks. The terrain is beautiful and unforgiving; little details will win you over, like communal mountain-shacks with oatmeal and little piles of rocks used to mark the trail when no trees are around to blaze.

Trips in the White Mountains are generally rugged. For more information on the White Mountains, please visit the official site of the White Mountains National Forest.
