Appalachian Trail in Northwestern Connecticut

While most of the FOOT trips take place along the Appalachian Trail, these trips cover the section of the trail that travels through Northwestern Connecticut, mostly along the ridges above the Housatonic River Valley. These trips offer views of riverbanks and pastoral countryside, and traverse several peaks, including Bear Mountain, the highest in Connecticut at 2,316 feet. FOOT leaders know this area very well - we do our training here every May!

The trips on this section of the Appalachian Trail are of medium difficulty. Most of the hiking is moderate, and while there are occasional challenging steep sections, they are typically short in duration.
