Every August, Yale Freshman Outdoor Orientation Trips (FOOT) runs 4- and 6-day backpacking excursions for incoming freshmen. This year, there will be trips in the Catskills (NY), Berkshires (MA), Green Mountains (VT), White Mountains (NH), Appalachian Trail (CT/MA), and the Yale Forest (CT). The six day trips will begin on August 23rd, and the four day trips will begin on August 25th. All FOOTies will arrive back at Yale for Freshmen Move-In Day, Friday, August 29th.

The trips cost $380 for 4-days and $410 for 6-days, with all costs included. We offer up to 75% financial aid for students who already qualify for aid from Yale. Don't worry if you don't have equipment - FOOT rents out a sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and backpacks at no cost.
