Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies

The Research Fund for Lesbian and Gay Studies, begun at Yale in 1987, was set up to provide financial support for projects by faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in the field of lesbian and gay studies. Subsequently, renamed FLAGS (Fund for Lesbian and Gay Studies) the program has expanded its offerings in recent years to include bringing in annual visiting professors who have held joint appointments in departments as diverse as English, Film Studies, Sociology and Psychology. A faculty committee (FLAGS Committee) oversees these activities.

Most recently, the Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies has been created to provide additional support for teaching, research and programming in lesbian and gay studies.

We are in the process of creating an entirely new Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian & Gay Studies website. It will provide one stop shopping for all LGBTQ needs on campus--complete listings of all queer studies classes, lectures as well as all social events, conferences, student groups, grant announcements and other student information. Check back with us shortly and you'll see the new, vastly more comprehensive site.

For more information on events sponsored by the Larry Kramer Initiative, please visit our office at WLH 311; telephone us at (203) 432-8796; or e-mail Jonathan Katz, the Exectutive Coordinator of the LKI.. Free copies of The Pink Book are available in the LKI office as well as online.

The John Boswell Lending Library of lesbian and gay studies, housed in the Larry Kramer Initiative office, is available for browsing whenever the office is open; hours may vary, but are posted on the door.
